Husky OnNet is a virtual private network (VPN) software application provided by UW IT to provide a secure temporary connection to the UW network from off-campus locations and can be used as an alternative to the Libraries off-campus proxy service for connecting to UW subscription resources.

Note: There may be performance or privacy considerations when using Husky OnNet configured to route 'All Internet Traffic' through the University of Washington network (described below). Use of Husky OnNet should be limited to University-related activity, as it is subject to the UW Appropriate Use Policy and its own Terms and Conditions.Be sure to Disconnect when you are done.
Note:
China and other countries may have strict laws and policies regarding VPN use - see FAQ.

Your F5 Support ID provides single sign-on access to support, services and education resources on websites such as support.f5.com, iHealth.f5.com and downloads.f5.com. Furthermore, 'before disconnect' and 'after disconnect' macros are not executed and the option 'Go Offline on connection' seems to have no effect. To access library resources, you will need to change the server to access All Internet Traffic either through the app interface menus or through the server URL, depending on which operating system you are using (see below).

Follow the instructions to Download and Use Husky OnNet; this page also shows you how to configure it for each operating system:

In Windows:

  1. Before clicking on Connect, make sure the server setting says All Internet Traffic.
If it does not, click Change Server at the bottom left (for Windows).
  2. In the pop-up window, select All Internet Traffic.
  3. Click Next
  4. Click the Connect button
  5. If you are connected correctly it will say Connected and Server: All Internet Traffic.

From this point, you can browse, search, and connect to any UW subscription library resource as if you are on campus and without using the Libraries off-campus proxy.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides off-campus users with secure access to the Emory University's internal network. Emory VPN access uses a standalone client or web browser to establish the remote access connection. It secures traffic by encrypting communications between a remote computer and Emory's network.

Access: Requires a network ID and password. Users must also register with the IT Service Desk to gain access to the VPN. Call 404-727-7777 to complete this process. Update: This requirement is currently being waived for University users due to the Covid-19 situation. Emory Healthcare users should follow the standard process for gaining VPN access to the Emory Healthcare network.

VPN Client: Windows and Mac users should download the latest Standard Client - this is the preferred VPN access mechanism.

  1. Only connect to theVPNif you cannot access the Emory network resources that you need without it. If you are unsure, try to access the system without theVPNfirst, and if you can’t get to it, then feel free to use theVPN.
  2. Disconnect theVPNafter you no longer need it. Following these first two guidelines will help ensure we have plenty ofVPNresources for everyone.
  3. Unless you have no other choice, please use Emory owned and managed devices when connecting to theVPN.
  4. Users who need elevatedVPNaccess to one of the University restricted network cores (Admin, DMZ, HIPAA, etc), still need to have their supervisor, sponsor, or local support submit a Service Now Catalog Request on their behalf for this elevated access.
