With the Brother PED-Basic® Software and card reader/writer you can download embroidery designs from the Internet and write them from your PC onto original Brother cards.

You can use the Brother PED-Basic Software when you want to embroider designs that aren’t built-in to your embroidery machine, and

• Your Brother embroidery machine such as the SE350, LB6770 PRW, or PE700 doesn’t have a USB port.
• Or you want to organize your designs on memory cards.

When You Probably Don’t Need This Software

• If your embroidery machine has a USB port that is compatible with a USB stick or thumb drive such as the PE770, you can just store designs on a thumb drive and don’t need to write memory cards.
• If your embroidery machine has a USB port that attaches to your computer, such as the SE400, HE240, LB6800 PRW, you can download embroidery patterns from your computer and save them in the machine’s memory.

If you want to create or digitize your own design, you will need to buy more advanced software that might include a card writer.

Even if your embroidery machine has a USB port that attaches to your computer for downloading, you might still want to write embroidery designs on a memory card. For example, if you don’t have a laptop or it’s inconvenient to move your computer next to the embroidery machine, you can transfer designs on a memory card.

Of course use your own judgement. You might have a good reason for needing this software that I don’t know about.

Four Easy Steps to Downloading Additional Embroidery Designs

How to Write More than One Design

Many people ask me how to write more than one design or how to add additional designs to a card without overwriting the old designs. It’s easy to do, but the manual isn’t very clear. So here’s how.

Click the browse button and navigate to the folder where your embroidery designs are. This can be a folder on your hard drive or on a CD. Then in the box on the left — the “Available Patterns List” — you’ll see the designs you can copy. Click the pattern you want to write to the card. Then Click the arrow button in the center of the boxes to move the design to the “Selected patterns list.” Do this for all the designs you want to write to the card.

If you already have designs on the card that you want to save, you must select the card first and move those designs to the “Selected patterns list.”

Be sure to keep checking the “Card capacity indicator” because the card may not hold all the designs you want, especially if you have a lot of them from a CD.

You can also select multiple designs by, holding down the Ctrl key or Shift key while clicking the designs. Or you can just drag the designs from the left box to the right box.

All the designs in the right box will get written to the card.

This is a trial version of PE-DESIGN 11 which allows you to try PE-DESIGN 11 (Personal Embroidery Design Software System) with limited functions.

• Brother is not responsible for damage to or loss of any equipment, media, programs or data related to the use of this trial version.
• If a product version of PE-DESIGN 11 has already been installed on your PC, do not install this trial version.
• If you purchase a product version of PE-DESIGN 11, be sure to uninstall this trial version before installing the product version.
• In order to install the software on Windows Operating System, you must log on to the computer using an account with administrator privileges. For details on logging on to the computer using an account with administrator privileges, refer to the Windows manual.

How to install the program to your hard drive

This section describes how to install the software.

1. Double-click on the downloaded ped11trial_eng/_fre/_ger/_dut/_ita/_spa/_por.exe file with File Explorer (Windows 10/8.1) or Windows Explorer (Windows 7).
2. The User Account Control dialog box appears.
3. Click Yes.
4. The InstallShield Wizard for PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version) starts up, and the first dialog box appears.
5. Follow the installation screen directions to install the software.
6. When the dialog box of installation completion appears, click Finish to complete the installation of the software.

* After finishing the installation, it is no problem to delete the downloaded file 'ped11trial_eng/_fre/_ger/_dut/_ita/_spa/_por.exe'.

How to uninstall the program from your hard drive

This section describes how to uninstall the software.

For Windows 10 users:

1. Click (Start button) , and then click (Settings).
2. Click Apps .
3. In the Apps & features window, select PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version) and click Uninstall.
   ⇒ The message This app and its related info will be uninstalled. will be displayed.
4. Click Uninstall. If User Account Control message appears, click Yes.

For Windows 8.1 users:

1. Position the mouse pointer in the Start screen to display the down arrow in the lower-left corner of the screen, and click it.
   ⇒ The list of applications appears.
2. Right-click PE-DESIGN 11 (Layout & Editing), which appears under the title PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version).
   ⇒ The taskbar appears at the bottom of the screen.
3. Click Uninstall in the taskbar to run the application as an administrator.
   ⇒ The Programs and Features window appears.
4. In the Programs and Features window, select PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version) and click Uninstall.
   ⇒ A dialog box appears.
5. Click Remove to uninstall the application.
   ⇒ The following message appears shortly after uninstallation begins.
6. Click Yes.
   ⇒ If the software has been successfully uninstalled, a dialog box appears.
7. Click Finish.

For Windows 7 users:

1. Click (Start button) , then Control Panel. Select Programs and Features in the Control Panel window.
2. Select PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version), and then click Uninstall.

Starting Up the Application

This section describes how to start up the software.

For Windows 10 users:

Click (Start button). A list of applications appears. Click PE-DESIGN 11 (Layout & Editing), which appears under the title PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version).
When the application starts up, the Startup Wizard will appear.

For Windows 8.1 users:

Click the down arrow in the bottom-left corner of the Start screen to show the All Apps view, and then click PE-DESIGN 11 (Layout & Editing)under the title PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version) in the screen.
When the application starts up, the Startup Wizard will appear.

For Windows 7 users:

Differences between the trial version and the product version

The trial version of PE-DESIGN 11 does not have the following functions.
Also, the trial version has less sample data than the product version.

Click (Start button). Click the title PE-DESIGN 11 (Trial Version) and then select Online Instruction Manual.

For Windows 8.1 users:
